We have a right to know the facts before you ask Americans to cast our trust in you at the ballots. We have suffered enough the last 8 years and we are drawing the line here. You can’t "reform" Washington by killing by killing a bipartisan investigation - claiming the Democrats have tainted it - because it inconveniences you and your campaign.
What are you hiding?
If you are the true "reformers" you claim to be, stand up and face this investigation with honor and dignity. It’s what a reformer would do. That is, unless, you are admitting to abuse of power and misleading millions of Americans into believing you are the anti-establishment change agent you convinced your base that you were at the Convention.
Athletes practice their entire lives for a single opportunity at the Olympics. If they get caught using a drug or an unapproved performance enhancer, they don’t get to finish the Olympics. And their use of performance enhancers has no influence on National Security, public policy, the economy or human rights.

Right now on Fox News they are reporting that there are emails in Alaska saying that Walt Monegan was fired for insubordination. There needs to be an investigation as now this is beginning to look like a set-up by the McCain political machine since Palin is running for VP.

I believe that Mrs. Todd Palin - the name I will use for her - because she has lost all my respect to be called a Governor of Alaska. As a true Governor, she should put her foot down to the McCain dogs to leave her state and its people alone. Our public servants like Hollis and Monegan do not deserve this treatment.

I agree. Palin has misused her office, and the “machine” from DC is here to help her. Many of us Alaskans “in the know” - are disgusted with the way our respected true public servants (Hollis French, Walt Monegan, Steve Branchflower and more) are being treated by the sharks. These people are our true heroes. Thank you to them and their families for their courage in having to undergo this un-called for scrutiny and backlash.
She fired Monegan either because he wouldn’t fire her sister’s ex (Monegan’s story) or because Monegan was pursuing funding to combat the ridiculously high incidence of rape in Alaska (Palin’s story). Which is worse? Abuse of power or not advocating for women and justice?
This clearly shows that corruption, deceit, and self-interest rule behind the sweet smile of McCain/Palin. No wonder they are desperate to hid it under the rug. Although I live in the lower 48 (my son did live in Girdwood for a while), I INSIST Palin allow this to be investigated, and that she open up her eyes and see that WE KNOW she wasn’t properly vetted and now she refuses to allow the investigation? NO NO NO - If she wants to be seen as the reformer to work with Grampy McCain, she MUST open herself up to this investigation. This investigation began before she was part of GOP Presidential ticket. This is about her job here, in this state. She needs to take responsibility for her actions and allow this investigation to continue.What we learn about what she did and how she handled this are crucial components of how she leads. If Sarah Palin has nothing to hide or did nothing wrong, why won’t she cooperate and get it overwith? If you or I failed to respond to a subponea, we would be put in jail for contempt. We must send a loud and clear message to Gov. Palin, Todd Palin and all those who are refusing to honor the subponeas are NOT above the law! This investigation must be finished before the election, and the American voters have the right to know the results first.
What I don’t understand is how did Palin’s husband become so involved in this mess at a State level, when they created this mess at a personal level? Why was “the dude” contacting Monagan and/or Monagan’s people? If this was a private matter, then the matter should have stayed at home, and so should the “first dude.” Is “the dude” on the State payroll? He seems to be there all the time. Which, by the way, “first dude” is not a flattering moniker for a governor’s husband. Sounds kind of juvenile and thuggish.
Since the Palins made this a State problem, I feel they should belly up to the bar and take what’s coming to them. The Palins caused this mess. They should be held to answer to their actions. And, also, they should have to pay for all the time, money, etc. that it is costing, and the time of our legislators, etc. that this matter has taken away from running our state. Why should our State waste all this money on these investigations? So much for Palins “ethics reform.” Seems like she was the first one to break her rules - or, maybe she doesn’t have to follow those rules. She’s no different than the corrupted individuals she claims to have gotten rid of. (That’s another story for a later time.)
Frankly, I think the governor should have to step down; Monagan should replace her; we’ll all call it a day and get back to our day-to-day activities without all these damn interruptions to hear the next saga in the life of Sara Palin! Like we care! Come on, people, we have a state to run, and business to tend to, and Sara doesn’t seem to be doing such a good job. Right now she is temorarily indisposed.
My heart goes out to Senator Hollis French and Walt Monegan and their families. They do not deserve this treatment. They have dedicated their lives and careers as true public servants in Alaska. Abuse of power is extremely serious and dangerous. If she saw fit to do this as a public official in Alaska, I shudder to think what would happen were she to find herself in the White House. The issue here is integrety and accountability and must be fully investigated.
The most unquilified person to be on a national ticket and just one heart beat away from being President. Her political views on education, birth control, pro choice and environment platform are so out touch, no one can agree with her.

I’m from the lower 48. Palin has claimed she fired Monegan because of budgetary problems. I read somewhere (isn’t the internet wonderful?!?) that Monegan had gone over Palin’s head and requested funds for additional staff (police, prosecutor, judge) to be dedicated to prosecuting sexual assault cases - including assaults against children. Has anyone heard anything like that?
In my view, since she instructed so many witnesses to ignore their subpoenas, I think she’s going to cook her own moose…er, goose. With only the “Monegan side of the story” being told, they might just rule that she did, indeed, abuse her power. The only thing I worry about is the possibly that the Troopergate thing is the tip of the iceberg and the witnesses have even MORE dirt on her. (I also read something about her being up to her eyeballs in your Ted Stevens thing.)
Here’s another question…how did you all work up the nerve to start this group? I thought EVERYONE in Alaska was afraid of SP. Or is that just the folks that have jobs that she could eliminate on a whim? You’re brave for another reason - if (no, WHEN) Obama wins, she’s going to be going home to you guys. Firing Monegan for going over her head is untrue. There is documentation that her chief of staff signed off for him to take the trip to D.C.. Walt Monegan is a super awesome person and has been a dedicated public servant of Alaska for decades. If you read anything that resembles a smear about him, that’s exactly what it is. McCain’s campaign are spreading lies. It’s very shocking. We folks in Alaska - the ones who have been around and know the players - are upset (boiling mad) that the Republican machine from D.C. is defaming our good people just to win an election. And aghast that Sarah Palin lets them do it.

McCain and Philip Gramm had dealings with the Keating 5 fiasco and Cindy and her dad invested while McCain received money for his campaigns. The delay until GHWBush was president to do any thing about the Savings & Loan went under and the taxpayers bailed them out because of a Gramm deregulation slipped into a bill. Gramms wife Wendy went to work for Enron (Cheney) took home over $2 million from that scandal.. The taxpayers keep bailing all these crooks out in the socialization of corporations but forget the working man who loses his home, job, health coverage.So why wouldn’t McCain pick a corrupt running mate who has done illegal things and used whatever she has had to do to get her way including firing an employee. Alaskans know she can use the feat factor to intiminate those who work for her and now she is part of a bigger corruption “good ole boy” system..She quoted Westbrook, some fascist, who wished that Robert Kennedy would have his brains splattered all over the sidewalk by a Southerner in the 60’s. This TrooperGate Probe is not partisan with 8 Republicans and 4 Democrats leading the charge. If she was within her rights to fire Walt, then she will prevail. If Palin actually abused her power, then she should face the music. I am INSULTED and embarassed that the McCain people have taken over the Palin governorship. The Troopergate allegation is troublesome and needs to be settled long before November 4th. Palin is essentially applying for the 2nd highest job in our government and the voters have a right to all information to help in decision-making.
Why is it that we law abiding, tax paying citizens are required to cooperate with authorities but government officials are given a pass? It just isn’t fair.

What is most important here, is that McSame-Palin are running on a platform of “reform” while actively obstructing justice. It’s an example of how they will Govern if elected. Just as we saw this week, McCain’s role in Keating 5 - the kind of Corporate sponsored Governement deregulation that lead to the financial disaster and Government bailout last week - and then turning around and blaming Wall street. This investigation needs to happen, and it MUST happen before the election. Americans need to know the truth BEFORE they enter the polls, not after. I am a Republican working mother of 5 and I am so embarrassed by Sarah Palin’s behavior. I would have been very happy if someone like Kay B. Hutchinson had been on the ticket (experience and intelligence)There is no way I would leave my 5 month old DS baby for somebody else to care for. I doubt that Todd is the caregiver because he’s busy following Sarah. Then to have a pregnant teenager who needs a mom more now than ever, it’s shameful. If she’s innocent, there should be no reluctance to cooperate with the investigation. If she’s innocent she should tell the McCain people that she has got to cooperate to protect her integrity. This will be the first time in my voting life that I will be voting Democratic. Obama and his family; Biden and his family represent more of what FAMILY means to me. After we are done with TrooperGate, the state will have to look at her misuse of taxpayer money. She paid herself per-diem for 300 plus days I believe, while she was living at her house in Wasilla. Past governors always moved to Juneau to be available to conduct government in a timely and efficient manner. It’s interesting that she likened herself to a dog.

I’m not a hockey-mom or an Alaskan. I’m just a concerned citizen from the lower 48 who thinks the McCain campaign takeover of Alaska state government is outrageous. You need to get this story out to the rest of the country because it’s only being covered - if at all - by the bloggers. The Palin stonewalling of the “Troopergate” probe is just as abusive as the activities under investigation. The timeline is important, too, because some are saying this is a partisan witchhunt and do not realize that the investigation predates Palin’s bid for VP.
Down here, the right-leaning media portrayed the anti-Palin rally as a bunch of liberal commie hippie tree hugger anti-American malcontents. As you know, any criticism of Palin is branded as sexism and it’s difficult to have any sort of meaningful discussion about her qualifications and character. It’s terrifying to think that the RNC is up in Alaska trying to keep the truth from reaching the rest of us and swiftboating Alaskans who try to speak out. I know you are tougher than that and I pray you get through.
I have been reading the Alaska Daily News since McCain brought Palin onto the ticket. The rest of the country is watching. Don’t let the RNC goons usurp Alaskan state government.

I didn’t vote for Gov. Palin, but knew she would be voted in because of her ‘rape & pillage’ attitude which include drill, drill, drill, kill, kill, kill anything that gets in her way. Polar Bears outta here and quick; a direct slap to the intelligent scientist that have determined their demise; airplane ‘hunting’ of preditors that get in the way of the money that comes into AK during the caribou & moose killing seasons. Sounds like murder for the sake of murder. Her religious views are archaic, backward and dangerous as she hides under the Protestant umbrella. Obviously her family doesn’t even respect her noting her pregnant highschool daughter and her drop-out boyfriend. In only 20months she has ‘called herself into question’ then quickly eliminated the question. Hubby seems to be enjoying the limelight, as usual, and ignoring a subpoena. Nothing to cover up? Now that Palin has been in the lime light for a month and the honeymoon is definitly over, I sit as a mother of two teenage girls and think about how truly horrified Bristol must have felt at the RNC. I cannot fathom a moment in my life where I would sacrifice my children for my agenda.
I don’t mean to get off topic here but it is the sum of the whole that is such a disgrace to the American people and especially women.

As an Alaskan I want the Troopergate investigation to be completed before the Nov 4th Presidential election. I also think that the John McCain camp is obstructing this bipartisan investigation and that they need to be held accountable. This shows to me that if John McCain and Sarah Palin are elected our country will certainly have four more years of the same crap coming from the white house.
The legislative investigation was voted upon by 100% of all legislators and before Sarah Palin was chosen as Vice President. All Alaskans and all American have an absolute right for this investigation to continue and finish prior to November 4th Presidential Election. Sarah Palin may be guilty or she may be innocent of claim “abuse of power.” Truth needs to prevail.
This is my second comment today. Could someone please tell me why so many Alaskans feel Sarah Palin cleaned up Political Corruption in Alaska?? My research reveals FBI has been doing an investigation since 2004 which was long time before Sarah Palin was elected. Appears she rode wave for change after FBI raid of legislators offices August, 2006 and was elected governor October-November, 2006. FBI alone is/was doing this investigation. FBI is still active in Alaska and they are working under orders from Washington. Alaska Government and Sarah Palin have not done any of this investigation. Alaska Government is actually being investigated. I see where Palin has asked certain indicted politicians to resign only following release of FBI findings and/or indictments. Is it correct 11 Republican politicians, 0 Democratic politicians have been indicted to date??
